Providence, R.I.—Head Coach Adam Spring’s team finished the 2017-18 season with a 13-5 overall record and a 3-3 (fourth place tie) mark in the Little East. Rhode Island College established a new program record for wins in a season, eclipsing the previous mark by two victories.

The No. 4-seeded Anchormen won their LEC Championship first round match, 5-3, vs. No.5-seeded Western Connecticut on May 1, before falling to No. 1-seeded UMass Boston, 5-2, on May 3.

Senior Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) closed out his career as an Anchorman with a 21-38 (.356) career singles record and a 21-38 (.356) career doubles record for 31.5 career points. Taggart is tied for 17th all-time in career doubles wins.

As a senior in 2018, Taggart named Second Team All-Little East in both singles and doubles. Taggart was 10-7 (.588) at No. 2 singles and 11-7 (.611) at No. 1 doubles for 15.5 points on the season. He was named the Little East Player of the Week once on the season.

As a junior in 2016, Taggart went 0-15 (.000) at No. 1 singles and 2-14 (.125) at No. 1 doubles for 1.0 points on the year.

As a sophomore in 2015, Taggart went 5-8 (.385) at No. 2 and 3 singles and 3-10 (.231) at No. 1 and 3 doubles for 6.5 points on the season. He was named the Little East Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week once on the season.

As a freshman in 2014, he went 6-8 (.429) at No. 3 singles, which included a 3-3 mark in Little East Conference play, and 6-8 (.429) in doubles play for 9.0 points on the year. 

Taggart is an applied technology major and a 2013 graduate of North Kingstown High School.

Junior Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT) was 7-1 (.875) at No. 6 singles and 1-0 (1.000) at No. 3 doubles for 7.5 points on the season.

Junior Matt Gambardella (West Warwick, RI) was 12-5 (.706) at No. 4 singles and 13-3 (.813) at No. 3 doubles for 18.5 points on the season.

Junior Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI) was named Second Team All-Little East in doubles. He was 1-1 (.500) in singles and 9-2 (.818) at No. 2 doubles for 5.5 points on the season.

Sophomore Jonny Glendinning (Exeter, RI) was 2-0 (1.000) at No. 6 singles and 0-1 (.000) at No. 3 doubles for 2.0 points on the season.

Freshman Alex Bourque (North Smithfield, RI) was named Second Team All-Little East in doubles. He was 8-8 (.500) at No. 3 singles and 11-7 (.611) at No. 1 doubles for 13.5 points on the season. Bourque was named the Little East Rookie of the Week once on the season. 

Freshman Cam Chadwick (Narragansett, RI) was named First Team All-Little East in Singles and Second Team All-Little East in doubles. Chadwick was 9-8 (.529) at No. 1 singles and 14-3 (.824) at No. 2 doubles for 16.0 points on the season. He established a new program record for doubles wins in a season. Chadwick was named the Little East Rookie of the Week once on the season.

Freshman Mike Dickie (Smithfield, RI) was 5-1 (.833) at No. 6 singles and 6-2 (.750) at No. 2 doubles for 8.0 points on the season.

Freshman Ethan Hoy (West Warwick, RI) was named the team’s MVP. He was 14-2 (.875) at No. 5 singles and 13-3 (.813) at No. 3 doubles for 20.5 points on the season. Hoy established new program records for singles wins and points in a season.
