Mike Webb Notches 16 Strikeouts As Baseball Blanks Utica, 2-0

Auburndale, Fla.--Junior right hander Mike Webb (Pawtucket, RI) pitched a complete-game, three-hit shutout with 16 strikeouts to give the Rhode Island College baseball team a 2-0 victory over Utica at the 2019 RussMatt Invitational on Thursday afternoon.

• RIC junior second baseman Nate Vigeant (Coventry, RI) went 3-for-5, while senior first baseman Tyler Walsh (Cumberland, RI) went 2-for-5 with a run scored.

• Junior shortstop Rommy Morel (Providence, RI) was 2-for-5, while junior third baseman Ray Zincone (West Warwick, RI) was 1-for-4 with an RBI in the victory.

• Utica junior shortstop Ryan Palmer (Verona, NY) was 1-for-2 and drew a walk in the loss.

• Freshman AJ Farina (Sherrill, NY) suffered the loss for Utica, allowing one run on seven hits with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work.

• RIC got on the board in the top of the second when freshman designated hitter Stephen Andrews (Lincoln, RI) doubled to right and came around to score on an RBI single to left from Morel.

• The Anchormen added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Walsh singled to left and scored on an RBI single from Zincone to make the score 2-0.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will take on Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday, March 15 (9:15 a.m.) at the RussMatt Invitational.
