Framingham, Mass.--Senior back Leah Saunders (Smithfield, R.I.) scored what proved to be the game-winner on a free kick as Rhode Island College defeated Framingham State, 1-0, at Maple Street Field on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Sophomore midfielder Sarah Pimentel (Cranston, R.I.) notched RIC's first shot on goal in the seventh minute, but neither team could break through the other's defense as the opening half came to an end in a scoreless, 0-0, deadlock.

• Freshman midfielder Isabella DiGioia (West Kingston, R.I.) opened the second half with a shot that lined off the crossbar in the 54th minute.

• RIC drew a foul not long later in the 57th minute, as Saunders took a free kick, which found the back of the net due to congestion in front of the net, to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
 
• Framingham State would have a two-on-one counter attack in the 81st minute, but senior back Yassin Joof (Johnston, R.I.) would intercept a pass to shut down the attack.

• Senior goalkeeper Nicole Nunes (Smithfield, R.I.) registered seven saves in her third consecutive shutout (5-0).
