Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College sophomore
Ethan Clegg (Chepachet, R.I.) was named the 2026 United States Tennis Association's (USTA) Andy Chase Award recipient for his performance during the 2026 season.
The annual award goes to the top male college player who graduated from a Rhode Island secondary school and played for their school team. They do not necessarily need to play at an in-state college. Clegg will be presented with his award at The Cerity Partners Hall of Fame Open at the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Wednesday, July 8.
Clegg is the second Anchorman ever to receive this award.
Alex Bourque '23 won the award in 2021.
Clegg was named First Team All-Little East in singles and Second Team All-Little East in doubles. He was 12-1 at primarily No. 2 singles and 10-4 at primarily No. 2 doubles on the season.
ABOUT THE AWARD
ANDY CHASE – A native of Cumberland, Chase was the US National 16 & Under Hardcourt Singles Champion and a two-time national junior doubles champion. He won two RIILS state singles championships and team championship for Cumberland. He went on to play at Stanford University, where he was a teammate of John McEnroe. The Cardinal won three NCAA Division I team championships during his four years in Palo Alto, California.
