Anchorwomen Close Out Fall Semester With, 69-37, Win Over Wildcats

Providence, R.I.—Sophomore center Willcia McBorrough (Providence, RI) led the way for the Anchorwomen with 17 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks and a pair of steals as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team defeated Johnson and Wales, 69-37, at The Murray Center on Wednesday evening to close out the fall semester.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen started the first quarter on a 15-0 run with the help of their stout defense, led by McBorrough who rejected a shot and recorded a steal in the opening two minutes of the game.

• All five of RIC's starters recorded at least two points for the Anchorwomen in the opening period, as the hosts held a 24-10 lead going into the second frame.

• The Anchorwomen controlled the pace of the second quarter, which stemmed from their defense. RIC recorded four steals in the period and scored 10 points off turnovers. Going into the halftime intermission, RIC led by 12, 41-19.

The third quarter began sluggish for both teams as neither side could get much going offensively.

• The Anchorwomen were able to hold the Wildcats to only two points during the quarter and held a commanding 33-point, 54-21, lead at the end of the quarter.

• During the fourth quarter, RIC outscored JWU, 21-13, and cruised to its ninth win of the season.

• Senior forward Fataya Larry (Brooklyn, NY) scored six points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Freshman guard Maci Dorantes (Bristol, CT) added 10 points, two rebounds and one assist. Senior guard Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, MA) scored nine points to go along with three assists, one rebound and one assist. Junior guard Sophia Guerrier (Waltham, MA) had eight points, two rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.

• Senior guard Tiondra Hands (Boynton Beach, FL) led the Wildcats with seven points and dished out four assists.

BY THE NUMBER
• RIC shot 40 percent (29-for-73) from the field, 24 percent (5-for-21) from long range and 75 percent (6-for-8) from the foul line.

• JWU shot 22 percent (14-for-64) from the field, 27 percent (3-for-11) from three-point territory and 68 percent (6-for-9) from the charity stripe.

• RIC outrebounded JWU, 61-36, and dished out 20 assists on the night.

WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East action at home vs. Castleton on Saturday, Jan. 4 (1 p.m.).
